The United States Air Force operates under a comprehensive policy framework ensuring every Airman is supported through deployment, leave, and welfare programs. Our policies are designed to protect personnel and their families.
Policy updates are issued by the Department of the Air Force and take effect upon publication in the Air Force Instruction (AFI) database. All commanders are responsible for communicating changes to their units within 72 hours.
Leave policies are governed by AFI 36-3003 and cover all forms of leave including ordinary, emergency, and special category leave. Deployment welfare benefits are outlined in AFI 36-2110.
Personnel should review the current AFI index regularly and contact their unit's Personnel Specialist for guidance on applying any new directives to their current leave or benefit status.
